Victoria gets smartASX-listed service integrator UXC has landed one portion of a contract to provide about 1.1 million smart meters across Victoria. The deal is with Powercor Network Services and is valued about $80 million.Along with smart meters, it will also include associated communications and ancillary equipment. The roll-out will be conducted on Citipower and Powercor networks across Melbourne and Western Victoria.New 3G device promises better upload speedsTelstra and NetComm have launched the latest device for mobile business workers, called Telstra Turbo 7 Wireless Gateway. It enables users to turn a Next G network service into a mobile Wi-Fi and Ethernet hotspot just as long as there's network coverage and power. Both companies claim it is one of the first 3G devices globally that enables enhanced upload speeds. It will cost $589 outright or $149 upfront on $59, $89, $119 and $169 data packs on 24-month contracts.Squiz buys FunnelbackCSIRO has sold its Funnelback search engine technology company to content-management provider Squiz for an undisclosed sum. The investment portfolio manager for CSIRO, Karl Rodrigues, says the partnership between the two companies presented enormous opportunities.Funnelback was developed in conjunction with the Australian National University and its main product, Funnelback Enterprise, has the capability to search content assets across internet, intranet, database and shared network drives.
